Barstool Ski Races

Sunday, January 26, 2020

Enter Your Team!
Vulcan Snow Park is excited to host this unique and entertaining sport in St. Paul!
What exactly is barstool ski racing? Well, basically, contestants race downhill on (you guessed it) barstools on skis in one-on-one heats. Barstool decorations, costumed riders, and the inevitable wipeouts just add to the fun. According to this Mashable article, it’s the greatest sporting event you’ve never heard of.
Join the fun! Build your sled, grab your helmet and goggles, and fly down the hill in the soon to be most attended event in the history of the Winter Carnival. (Must be 18 or older to enter.)
How it works: The sleds are made from a barstool mounted on two skis. (There are specific criteria, but you get the idea.) Teams are made of up to three people: the rider (who rides the barstool down the slope), the pusher (who pushes the barstool into motion at the top), and the mechanic.
Teams may enter one or more of three divisions:
  • Regular Division – Be the first rider in your heat to cross the finish line at the bottom of the slope. Trophies and cash prizes are awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams.
  • Powder Puff Division – Both the rider and the pusher must be female. Trophies and cash prize are awarded to the 1st place team only. Otherwise, this division is identical to the Regular Division.
  • Open Class Division – Anything goes! If you can sit on it and it will go down the hill, you can race it. The only sled requirements are that it must be powered by gravity only and must be on skis. The crazier, the better! Trophies and cash prize are awarded to the 1st place team.
Watch the fun! Come cheer the teams on—and, of course, watch for the inevitable wipeouts.
